Two old men escape from a care home and go to a metal concert
Cyril doesn’t like old people, which is a problem, because he is one. When he finds out his estranged granddaughter Lily is getting her big break with her thrash metal band Abscess, he and his friend Neville hatch a plan to be there. What follows is a hilarious and heartfelt buddy adventure about friendship, rebellion, and refusing to grow old quietly.
Written by UK comedian, poet, and former nurse Rob Gee, AWOL is part road trip caper, part love letter to heavy metal, and a celebration of living loudly at any age. Gee has performed at over 100 fringe festivals worldwide and won more than twenty awards for his solo shows, including Forget Me Not: The Alzheimer’s Whodunnit (“This is terrific theatre” – Vancouver Sun).
Joining him is Jon Paterson, a thirty-year theatre veteran known for his heartfelt and humorous How I Met My Mother. Directed by Ryan Gladstone (Monster Theatre), the creative team brings wit, warmth, and plenty of attitude to the stage.
